Mendes is ‘Done With Dieting’

On her recent Instagram post, the Riverdale star has had enough. Mendes wrote a pretty long caption on a post regarding the fact that she is simply done with dieting. She explained how in this society we are currently in, being thin may seem to be more important than being healthy. Mendes posted last Monday on her Instagram page how for the very first time, she actually went to have naturopathy.

Naturopathy is actually a form of alternative medicine wherein naturopaths actually believe that diseases could be prevented and healed naturally through healthy diet, exercise and other forms of healthy and natural lifestyle without the help of any drugs. Mendes admitted that she has been struggling with anxiety especially when it comes to food and her obsession with losing weight.

Her naturopath made her realize that she is actually spending way too much time thinking about dieting that is the reason why she is having anxiety about it. Mendes also said that she eventually realized how she is forgetting to do the things that she has always loved doing.

She admitted how she definitely became obsessed with losing weight and being thin that it definitely consumed her, which is why she is not trying her hardest to focus on doing all the things that make her happy.

The Riverdale actress talked about how her passions for music, film, and everything else somehow vanished when she became too focused on trying to be thin, which is why she is reclaiming everything.

One of the best possible ways that she believes she could do to become a better version of herself is to simply accept who she is and how she looks. She is done trying to become someone society wants her to be, instead, she will continue to stay healthy by eating right and doing regular exercise.

Mendes wants her six million followers on Instagram to realize that the ideal body type is not being thin because the ideal body type is the healthy body. She even used the hashtag #DoneWithDieting to encourage her followers to be inspired and share their journey just like what she did.

Her Past Eating Disorders

This is not the first time that Mendes actually voiced out her thoughts on body positivity. In fact, just last year she announced on social media that she has partnered up with the Project HEAL Foundation. Mendes said that she is indeed very proud to have become part of it since she has experienced going through serious mental illnesses that involve eating disorders.

She also mentioned how she had to witness her sister suffer from all the symptoms for so many years. She confirmed her involvement by attending the Project HEAL’s Gala that took place at the Levi Stadium in San Francisco. The Project HEAL Foundation is actually a non-profit organization that is helping people, especially children in Ethiopia by aiding them with education and giving proper nutrition to help end the poverty rate.

Mendes is not the only celebrity who is helping their fans who are struggling with body image. Celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence, Adele, and Demi Lovato, who even did an entire documentary film talking about her struggles so that she could inspire people, especially women, who believes that they don’t look good enough just because they are not thin.

Social media has become one of the biggest reasons why women tend to think that way, people body shaming others are simply not okay. However, this could all end with the help of celebrities like Mendes who are trying to be good examples by sharing their own journey to their fans.
